Video Games Past and Present

video games

I grew up playing video games. As a young girl watching her dad play them to having my own system. Starting with a Nintedo back in the 90s, graduating to Playstation, Xbox, and now digitally on my phone and laptop. Gaming is a pastime that I enjoyed then and even now.

There are so many genres of games available out there and I like almost all of them. My favorites are adventure, role playing games. Think Tomb Raider or Zelda on Nintendo Switch. I also like mystery solving and escape rooms, like Agatha Christie ones. And sometimes just a good old jaunt through a scrolling platform game is a win.

I love sharing this experience with my child as well. Playing multiplayer games together is a fun way to spend time with each other doing something we both love. We just ordered a new multiplayer game that we are very excited about! The Last Kid On Earth for Nintendo Switch.

Online Game Platforms

Over the years I’ve found several different places to play new games online. Some of my favorites are:

  1. Plays.org
  2. Big Fish
  3. Solitare
  4. Steam
  5. Nintendo Switch Online

Plays.org

What I love about this platform is all the games are free and there are no ads. I have a couple favorite games on here that I always go back to. They are: Princess Goldblade, Duck Shooter, and 2 Minutes to Escape. Plus they are always adding in new games so I constantly find new faves here.

Big Fish

This platform has access to PC, mobile, and online games. I play alot of my Agatha Christie games on here. These games are sold individually, but most come with a free trial first. Be sure to check for codes to save on purchases.

Solitaire

Choose from classic Klondike to the newest form of Solitarie and everything in between. Featuring full written nstructions and visuals to help you master the game. Not only can you play Solitaire, but they also have many other game genres to check out. For instance they have a Logic/Puzzle section with games like Sudoku (one of my all time faves) and a word scramble! Interested in learning more card games? Be sure to check out this Card Game section! Ive always wanted to learn how to play Gin Rummy!

Steam

Steam is a great way to find video games that are available on xbox and playstation but made for PC. I play all the newer Tomb Raider games here. This platform also requires you to purchase the games individually but I find the price is much less compared to owning the Xbox disc.

Nintendo Switch Online

Here you can find all the popular big name games such as Zelda, Animal Crossing, etc; but you can also find lots of fun little games. One of our all time favorite multiplayer games to play as a family is Spelunker Party!

Healthy Gaming Habits

While we do love our video games, we do set limits because we have a bad habit of getting lost in time. I encourage you to do the same not only for your children, but yourself. As hard as it is, we defintely have to lead by example.

I would love to hear from you and what your favorite games are and where you like to play them. Are you an online gamer? Maybe more traditional board games instead of video? Do you have all the gaming systems or just one? Tell me below in the comments.
