OK State Fair Food 2023

It’s that time of year! The Oklahoma State Fair is here and I had the honor of being judge for the Great TASTE of a Fair.

We judged 3 categories; sweetest of the sweet, savory, and new. There were about 6 entries in each category. And yes we tried it all. I had to limit each item to 1 bite so that I could fully judge fairly.

I wont waste your time going over every item, but will tell you my top recommendations and what won in each category.

First up, we have the sweetest of the sweet. In this category my fave items were the Freeze Dried Jolly Ranchers, the Caramel Apple Pie & the Oreo Brownie Blast from Waffle Chix. Freeze Dried Jolly Ranhers are always a win in my book but I dont think its worth spending your money or stomach space on at the fair when they are so easily found other places. The Oreo Brownie Blast was really tasty but a little too dry for me I think.

The winner for the sweets category: Caramel Apple Pie by Cutie Pie Concessions.

Next up, we have savory. This category was filled with so many amazing options. I had a really hard time judging because it was all so amazing. Some of my favorites in this was the Gilty Pleasure Mac, BB-Rays BBQ Elote, and the Champ Dog. My absolute favorite is the Champ Dog. This was a hatch chilie sausage with pulled pork and hatch chilie mac and cheese on top. Food coma overload, but worth it. The BBQ Elote came in really close 2nd as it was full of flavor.

Savory winner: Ulimate Champ Dog by Champions BBQ

Lastly, the new item category. This is the category I was most looking forward to judging because I love trying new things. I really enjoyed trying the fried cookie dough pie from MinnieApple Pie. The only drink entered into the competition was the Pina Colada Palmer and Im truly a sucker for anything Pina Colada flavored.

The winner for the new items: Pina Colada Palmer from A Latte Love

Plus the Great TASTE of a Fair overall winner was the Caramel Apple Pie from Cutie Pies Concessions.

Some items that I tried at the fair that were not in the competition but would have won my vote were the elote corn pizza from Swains and the meat candy on a stick from BB-Rays. Plus you cant go wrong with traditional fair foods like a Poncho corn dog, funnel cake, cotton candy, and of course a turkey leg.

What are you most excited to try?
