Just Keep Sewing, Just Keep Sewing….

My daughter has been begging to learn how to sew for over a year now.  So after teaching her the basics…plug in the machine, turn the light on, thread the needle and press this peddle and try to sew a straight line….and that being the extent of my knowledge I decided to enlist some professional help.

I found out that during the summer the Edmond Recreational Center had a sewing camp for young girls.  So my daughter and her friend went.

They had the nicest teacher and learned so much. They completed a new project everyday.  My daughter’s love for sewing was born.

When we found out that the classes continued throughout the year, we were thrilled.

The classes are $20 each and are offered on Mon-Thurs in the evenings and on Saturday mornings.  You can sign up for classes here.

Here are a few of the amazing projects that my kid has made in her sewing classes.  She has learned so much and can already sew me under the table!

Right now we have an older small Brother sewing machine and it works decent enough that the kid can get some practice in and continue to develop her sewing skills. However, its constantly having the thread come out, the bobbin jams up, etc.

So we decided to start looking at some of the newer fancy sewing machines to get an idea of what Bella might want in the future.

While at the State Fair we ran across a booth that featured Babylock machines.  These bad boys are fierce!  I didnt know that they were capable of doing all these new things!!

So we went home and started looking around at our options.  We decided on the Babylock Jubilant.  If you are looking for a new sewing machine, I highly suggest this one!

This machine has a self-threading needle, thread cutter built in, and the bobbin loading is like nothing Ive ever seen before.  It all makes the starting process that much easier and gets you sewing fast!

Its programmed with 80 stitches easily chosen on the LCD screen.  One of the stitches is the cutest little decorative crocodile stitch!

My daughter just put one on layaway and is anxiously awaiting when she gets it paid off.  Once she brings it home we will do a full overview over the machine, but in the meantime you can check them out online here.

Be on the lookout for future posts regarding the sewing machine!
