A Weekend In Overland Park, Kansas
We had quite the weekend in Overland Park, Kansas exploring their city. We tried some amazing food, saw their beautiful botanical gardens, and explolred some of their local businesses.
Friday

We started our weekend by checking into the Embassy Suites located at 10601 Metcalf Ave. This was the very first Embassy Suites locations for the chain. They recently did a complete remodel on the property. The room layout was really nice with a sitting/living room area in the front; then a hallway with a bathroom and a bedroom with a door. This made for some excellent sound proofing.

To really kick things off we went to dinner at McGregors Butcher & Bistro. Located at 11300 W 135th St. The atmosphere was very lovely, bluesy/speakeasy style vibe. The front of the building doesnt give away the extravagance of the interior. We ordered the calamari & crab cakes; salmon & filet w/scallops; and their shareable portion sides of mac n cheese & brussel sprouts. The food was fanatastic and we were so full. But they tempted us with desserts and we knew we had to try the chocolate cake.
Saturday

Being a big fan of brunch we started the day with a stop at Another Broken Egg located at 13386 Metcalf Ave. The best part of brunch is the cocktails of course and they had a great menu for drinks outside of traditional options of mimosas. We got their Traditional Day Starter & their Abe Cyclone which is a base of spiced rum vodka and punch. For our meals we ordered their cinnamon roll french toast and their country power bowl.

After stuffing ourselves silly we made our way up to Family Tree Nursery located at 8424 Farley St. I really loved this nursery. They had so many different plants and some I havent seen anywere before. It was the largest selection of plants Ive ever seen.

Next on the agenda was BRKTHROUGH. This concept is so fun and I hope we eventually get something like it in Oklahoma as well. Over 40 rooms of 2-5 minute games that challenge you mentally, physically, and skill wise. BRKTHROUGH is located right next to Scheels at 6403 W 135th St Ste E4. For 2 hours and $30 person you can challenge yourself and others as you race the clock to score points. Plus they even have a self service bar with beers and cocktails on draft.

Now that we’ve worked off breakfast we were ready for some KC-style bbq. So we went to Jack Stacks located at 9520 Metcalf Ave. The smell of bbq met us in the parking lot and definitely had us excited. We started our meal with their jalapeno skillet cornbread. Then dug straight into the bbq. We both got the 2 meat platters and shared sides of beans and cheesey corn.

I am a bubbles girl, so when we found out there was a local vineyard that served 3 types of champagne I was eager to check it out. Aubrey Vineyards is located at 16350 Kenneth Rd. One of their champagnes they have tastes like Wedding Cake! Its a little too sweet to drink too much of at once, but definitely an experience.

For the rest of the afternoon we rested at the hotel before heading back out and on our way to our evening event. We had tickets to see Rumors at the New Theater & Restaurant located at 9229 Foster St. This was dinner and a live show and it was such a fun evening. I grew up going to these kinds of things and it was very nostalgic. Dinner was buffet style and featured sliced steak, chicken, mashed potatoes, veggie medley and more. Plus dessert was amazing. I got the toffee butter cake — oooeee so good!
Sunday

To end the weekend in Overland Park, KS we got up and made our way to the Arboretum & Botanical Gardens located at 8909 W 179th St. It was a bit of a chilly morning so we first stopped and grabbed coffee at the Cafe Celeste there and proceeded to walk the grounds taking in all the sights. They have the cutest train yard setup that reminds me of MrRogers complete with a castle! With it being spring there was so many beautiful new blooms and I really loved how peaceful it was.

To end our trip we stopped by Louies Wine Dive for brunch, located at 6701 W 119th St. Here I of course got a mimosa, because it was brunch…not breakfast lol. We ordered the Wagyu Burger and the Chicken N Waffles. I highly recommend ordering a side of their tobacco onions to add to your chicken and waffles. This place was so fun with all the wine bottle decor and the food was delicious and our waiter was so friendly.
All in all, our weekend in Overland Park was successful and an adventure that I would be sure to go on again. Let me know if youve ever been and what your favorite part was.
